Doran Show Stables is located 30 miles north of Sacramento in the beautiful country-side of Lincoln, CA. Rich and Laura Doran's hard work and dedication to the Arabian Horse industry has led to many professional milestones and a thriving business. Rich specializes in starting young horses and turning out exceptionally trained horses in Western Pleasure, Hunter Pleasure, English and Country English Pleasure, Trail, Halter and all of the equitation divisions.

Laura and Rich met in 1984. Their friendship began when Laura's parents sought out the expertise of Rich's mother to train her 6-year old gelding - a long-awaited Christmas gift. "We had the best time out at the barn. Rich and I became best friends and really grew up together. We started dating when we were in high school and were married in 1992. We started our family in 1995 with Kenny followed by Mia in 1997 and Claire in 2002."

Training runs in Rich's family. His mother and step-father trained Arabians and Quarter Horses for most of Rich's youth. "Of all the things I learned from my mother, the most important was patience... in order to train an animal well, you must be patient." After earning his A.A. degree at Diablo Valley College, Rich decided to start his own business and has steadily built a resume of wins along with a loyal clientele. Laura joined Rich in the business after finishing up her B.S. Degree in Business Administration - Finance from Cal State University, Hayward. In 2000, Laura made time to earn her Arabian Judging Card and has gone on to receive her National-Regional card. She enjoys judging several shows per year.

In 1995, Doran Show Stables moved to a 45-acre ranch in Pleasanton, CA. This 88-stall facility was a large operation that Rich and Laura managed for 12 years. In 2007, Rich and Laura decided it was time to downsize and made the move north to their cozy 7.5 acre ranch in Lincoln with room for only 20 training horses.

Rich's career got a jump start when he began working with the legendary Half-Arabian mare Baskabella (SV Basksko X A Devil's Daughter) (See her video here). From her, Rich learned what the truly great ones are made of. He rode her to several National wins including US and Canadian National Champion Half-Arabian English Pleasure as well as US and Canadian National Champion Half-Arabian Mare. Since that great start, The Doran Family and Rich's amateurs and youth riders have earned many prestigious wins across several divisions. While Rich tends to be one of those types who like to let the results speak for themself, his clients are more vocal with their praise. Some of the comments that have been heard, "Encouragement, friendship and honesty are traits that are constantly demonstrated at Doran Show Stables." A pair of sisters say, "Rich and Laura are two unique individuals who we hold close to our hearts. They have influenced our lives tremendously. They have taught us that to succeed means to strive towards each goal with confidence, a positive attitude and hard work."

Outside training isn't all that is done at Doran Show Stables. The Dorans also buy, start and sell several horses of their own every year. In addition, all three of their children are avid riders so Rich is busy teaching them and helping them achieve the highest level of success. "It's important to me that they learn proper horsemanship and to realize that it's not all about just going into the ring to get a blue ribbon. We want to instill good sportsmanship, confidence and poise in all of our riders."

"This has been a wonderful business for us." Rich adds. "We love our life on the ranch and appreciate that it has provided a wholesome environment for our children. Sure, sometimes it can be a tough business with the travel and long hours, but the rewards are tremendous. No matter what turns our lives take in the years to come, I know that we'll always be involved with Arabians."
